Trained as an architect, Maria uses the language of spatial relationships to explore the ideas of identity and sense of place, but also control over such conditions.

Maria closely investigates kinetic mechanisms and their physical properties. She is constructing machines from from recycled materials such as clock motors or light bulbs. Objects created by her receive new life in unexpected arrangements.

Maria’s experimental work on reciprocal wooden structures has been published in the book titled “Biomorphic Design” by Asterios Agkathidis . Another recent project of hers - kinetic models, exploring six degrees of mechanical freedom, will be soon released in the research book of The Why Factory by MVRDV.

Most recently, with the “The Inorganic Life of Objects” installation, Maria has won a commission for the “Lydda - A Garden Disremembered“ exhibition for Qattan Foundation in  Palestine. The installation was built remotely at the  Birzeit University Museum, based on Maria’s clear instructions and architectural drawings.
